Maggie Zeng, Violin

Shanshan Zeng was born in Chengdu, China, and began learning the violin at the age of four under her great aunt, Prof. Wenyuan Chen, at Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China.

Zeng came to the United States as a full scholarship recipient to study at San Domenico School in the fall of 2007. In both 2008 and 2010, San Domenico School's Orchestra da Camera won the National String Orchestra Festival Grand Champion, in which Zeng served as the concertmaster/soloist. In addition, Zeng also won concerto competitions and performed with the San Domenico Virtuoso Orchestra While studying at SD, she was also a full-scholarship student at the preparatory division of San Francisco Conservatory of Music where she studied violin under Prof. Wei He and served as concertmaster in the Preparatory Chamber Orchestra. Zeng graduated from San Domenico High School with High Distinction honor in 2010.

Zeng studied at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under Prof. Wei He and Ian Swensen. Zeng served as the concertmaster at SFCM orchestra in Fall 2012. She has performed in master classes for artists such as Nora Chastain, Bonnie Hampton, Menahem Pressler, Vivian Weilerstein, Donald Weilerstein, Nadja Sonnenberg, among others. Zeng participated in the Tanglewood Music Center Festival in the 2011 and 2012, and served as the concertmaster for the TMC Orchestra under the baton of Kurt Masur. Zeng was invited to the Valdres Festival in Norway in 2013 as a soloist and she also coached young violin players, bridging music and music lovers. In the summer of 2014, Zeng attended a two-week master class session with Professor Zakhar Bron.

After graduating from San Francisco Conservatory in 2014, She came to New England Conservatory of Music to pursue her Master’s degree with Lucy Chapman.

In the summer of 2016, she participated in the Liandu Festival in China, where she performed with her teacher Wei He, and members from the New York Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony.

She is currently pursuing her Graduate Diploma at the New England Conservatory of Music. She is also a member of the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and the Phoenix Orchestra.
